199Z is a gender neutral fashion label, media house and live event curation company launched in 2016 and headquartered in Toronto, Canada. In its early stages, 199Z began as a YouTube channel that was dedicated to showcasing Toronto artists through interviews, dance videos, local hip-hop cyphers and concert recaps.
2016 was the year 199Z initiated the distribution of printed tees featuring their distinctive logo with white text appearing on every piece. The minimalistic approach to aesthetic was not only ageless, but also genderless which drew inspiration from 90s Hip-Hop fashion.
In the summer of 2017, 199Z announced the inaugural 199Z Music Festival bringing a unique boutique festival experience to Toronto event goers. The festival's second year expanded to not only include local musicians but also homegrown Canadian talent nationwide.
In 2018, the company became a staple for breaking Toronto artists during the launch of a local discovery concert series and as a result of its rapidly growing popularity, 199Z continued to distribute their highly anticipated merchandise at these shows.
The company grew to embody Toronto culture and diverse individuals of all generations gravitated towards it. Midway through 2020, 199Z announced the opening of their flagship store and headquarters.
